Our NEIGHBOURHOOD
We are right in the heart of the Bernese Alps where there are endless adventures to be had! With hundreds of kilometres of hiking trails (including the Via Alpina) and ski pistes on our doorstep and activities from zip-lines to curling to saunas, there really is something for everyone.
ADELBODEN THINGS TO DO
Adelboden has lots to do from hiking to skiing, zip lining to walking goats and fondue lunches to spa days! We recommend using the Adelboden Tourism website to plan your activities. For hiking, Switzerland Mobility shows every hiking trail in Switzerland!
GROUPS
Don’t forget, for many activities groups of 10+ need to book in advance. Of course, our reception team will be happy to help you find activities during your stay. However, please note we are only able to book activities for guests taking part in programme led by our staff. To avoid disappointment, for groups, we recommend planning and booking most of your activities before you arrive, especially during the peak seasons of July/August and Christmas to end February.
GEAR
Not got the right equipment? Our Chalet has hiking boots, waterproof clothing, hiking poles, and warm hats and gloves available to borrow for free (please note: these are available first come, first served and we cannot guarantee specific sizes). We also have sleds and snowshoes available to hire for a small fee. Ski/snowboard rental is available in the village and at the gondola stations.
SHOPS
Looking for souvenirs, a local delicacy, or just to stock up on some groceries? Adelboden has a range of village shops, including a small supermarket/grocery, a pharmacy, and many cafes and souvenir shops.
Note: In the village, as in most of Switzerland, shops are closed on Sundays. Some are also closed Wednesday afternoons.
Cafes, the supermarket, and some shops open on Sunday afternoons during the main ski season only.
SEASONS/OPENING HOURS
Please note: many activities and local businesses are closed from mid-October to early December and from Easter to mid-May. If you are visiting during these months, we recommend checking what is open before booking your stay.
Our Chalet is closed from 1 November to mid-December.
GUEST CARDS
With your overnight stay, you receive a digital Guest Card. This entitles you to free public transport between Adelboden, Frutigen, and Kandersteg (not on arrival and departure day), free entry to the Adelboden outdoor pool in summer, and some additional discounts on mountain transport, museum, and activities. You can find out more here.
Please note: guest cards are sent directly from the Adelboden Tourism Office to the guest at the lead booker’s e-mail address. The e-mail will be in German, please check your junk/spam folder if you have not received it.
FURTHER AFIELD - Bern, KANDERSTEG, & MORE!
Planning a longer visit? There’s lots to do just a short journey from Adelboden. Our village is well connected by a regular bus service to Frutigen train station, from where you can get trains across the country and even internationally!
We recommend using the Switzerland Tourism website to plan your activities. Popular local options include (click the place name to go to their website):
Bern – capital city with bears and a stunning old town!
Interlaken – Adventure Capital of Switzerland, the place to try paragliding, white water rafting, and more!
Kandersteg – home of KISC, Oeschinen Lake, and Gastern Valley.
Frutigen – small town with a big climbing tower, mini golf, and adventure outdoor pool. A stop at the suspension bridge between Adelboden and Frutigen is a must!
Lauterbrunnen/Schilthorn/Muerren – a valley of waterfalls, a picturesque, car-free village, and a mountain cable car with a revolving restaurant!
Getting Around
Ski Shuttles
At Our Chalet we offer our overnight guests daily, free ski shuttles during the ski season. The shuttle runs once daily in each direction to/from Oey gondola station, which is the gateway to the main ski area. Guests wishing to ski at Engstligenalp or Elsigen-Metsch can catch a public bus from here.
Ski shuttles usually run at 09:00 to Oey and at 16:00 back to Our Chalet, unless agreed otherwise in advance.
For those not using the shuttle, it is approximately a five minute drive or 25 minute walk from Our Chalet to the Oey- Silleren gondola station. Equipment lockers can be rented at the station.
Important notice
Ski shuttles seat up to eight guests. Boarding is on a first-come, first-served basis. Shuttles will run back and forth until all guests are transported.
Our Chalet is not able to provide children's car seats.
LUGGAGE TRANSFER
Due to local taxi regulations, outside of ski season we cannot offer guest transport.
However, we do offer a luggage transfer service on arrival and departure days to/from Adelboden Oey bus stop. This service is for luggage only and costs CHF 5 per person’s luggage return.
We offer luggage transport on all arrival and departure days from 08:00 to 18:00. Luggage transfer must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.
For journeys to/from the bus stop for people or outside of our luggage transfer hours, we recommend booking a taxi in advance. Our local taxi company is AFA.
Guests with walking disabilities
Please contact us in advance if someone in your group has a disability that affects their ability to walk. We may be able to provide a transfer service to/from Adelboden Oey. Please note, this only applies to guest with a permanent disability (not temporary injuries).
