The World Centres Volunteer Leadership Programme places over 100 participants a year across the World Centres, helping Guides & Scouts from around the world develop into leaders in their own communities.
World Centre Volunteers are vital to the day to day running of the World Centres. They help with everything from cleaning to cooking, and campfires to customer service. Volunteers build international friendships, have fun, take on outdoor challenges, learn new skills, and maybe even earn a special badge or two!
The World Centres Volunteer Leadership programme
The World Centres Volunteer Leadership programme is a 3 month residential volunteer experience for Guides and Scouts aged 18+. At Our Chalet you will be part of a team of 8-14 volunteers (depending on the season).
During your time at the Centre we will support you to build your confidence, learn new skills, gain a greater understanding of the world, and become an inspirational leader.

Working as part of the Our Chalet team you will support the day to day running of the Centre and make sure Guides and Scouts from across the world receive a warm welcome and a challenging programme!
You will get involved in all parts of running the Centre from working in a commercial kitchen to helping organise and carry out maintenance projects, from delivering programmes to groups of all ages and abilities to keeping the accommodation sparkling clean!
Through these hands-on experiences, you will be able to explore your passions and learn new skills that will help you for the rest of your life. At the same time, training and mentoring, based on the WAGGGS Leadership Model and learning methodologies will support you to reflect on your experience and build your leadership skills.
You will leave this programme:
- A World Centre Volunteer, confident using WAGGGS Leadership Mindsets and leading programme.
- More confident in yourself and your abilities.
- With friends from all over the world.
- With a wide range of life and work skills.
- More connected to the global Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting Movement.
